Kristie Ostrander – Volunteer Spotlight

The Northeast Iowa Council is pleased to honor Kristie Ostrander as a Spotlight Volunteer! Kristie  currently serves as the treasurer for Troop 91. This is her 9th year in Scouting.

Kristie and her husband, Dan, have 4 children, DJ, Morgan, John and Ian. DJ is an Eagle Scout and Morgan earned her Gold award in Girl Scouts. Two dogs, 2 cats, and a hedgehog also roam her home. Outside of Scouting Kristie is a 4th grade teacher at Audubon, a respite provider for Lutheran Services in Iowa, a religious education teacher for Holy Spirit, and was a Girl Scout troop leader for her daughter. In her free time, Kristie also enjoys cross-stitching, reading, doing puzzles, and camping.

What motivates you to give your time to Scouting?
My boys; I have been with them since DJ started in Scouts. I have loved seeing how much they have grown as Scouts and how they are now helping younger Scouts.

What aspects of Scouting do you enjoy the most?
Camping and the team work it teaches the boys.

What advice can you give to new Scouting parents?
Get involved! The more parents that are involved with the troop, the more the Scouts can do. Not everyone can camp on the weekends, or be a merit badge counselor, or run the meetings, but if everyone works together the Scouts will benefit from it all.

What are some of your favorite Scouting memories?
Going to summer camp with all three of my boys for two years. Seeing each of them get tapped out at summer camp for Order of the Arrow. When DJ got his Eagle rank.

On behalf of the Northeast Iowa Council, please help us say thank you to a very dedicated Scouter, Kristie Ostrander!
