The Northeast Iowa Council is proud to share the work of volunteers Charlie Cretsinger and Tony Peter from Post 1630 this month! Charlie is the owner of Catfish Charlies and is the Exploring Advisor for the Culinary Arts Exploring Post that meets at Catfish Charlies. Tony is the head chef at Catfish Charlies and also helps run the Exploring Post.
Charlie and Tony give students a realistic glimpse into what a career in a kitchen looks like through the Culinary Arts Exploring Post. They go over planning, costing, serving, and cooking. They are firm and honest with the students about the advantages as well as disadvantages to a culinary career such as working nights and weekends when others are out having fun. They share their knowledge about culinary schools and tell the students to ask more information as they get closer to picking schools.
Charlie and Tony helped the Explorers event create a 7-course meal that they served to the families of the program. They even provided an embroidered chef jacket to each Explorer to commemorate the class and the final meal.
In addition to running the Exploring program, Charlie has been generous in hosting the council’s Board Meetings on-site. He also supports the Boy Scout Golf Classic by providing a dinner for 2 for the auction.
On behalf of the Northeast Iowa Council, please help us say thank you to Charlie Cretsinger and Tony Peter!
