Pack 5 Sends Holiday Cheer Overseas

This holiday season, Pack 5 and an incredible community came together to spread joy across the globe! Thanks to the generosity of Pack 5 families, private donors, and local businesses—including Delaney’s Auto, McDermott Oil, Freddie’s Popcorn, Fareway in Peosta, and Verena Street Coffee—Pack 5 shipped 10 care packages to deployed soldiers from Iowa, totaling 121 pounds of support and gratitude.

One recipient, SSG William Essman, shared a heartfelt message from halfway around the world:

“Good morning/evening Pack 5! I want to thank all of you very much for the care package that you guys put together and sent to me halfway around the world! The letters, treats, cards, candy, presents, and everything in the package are very much appreciated! There are so many goodies that I am going to share with my junior enlisted soldiers. Even though I am gone for the holidays, you all made this Christmas and New Year one to remember! So thank you again.

Many years ago I was a Cub Scout sitting where you are today. I learned many things to help me in life and I still use that knowledge here today—like tying knots! Once again, thank you all very much for the package and your support. It means a lot to me and my guys. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope your love for the outdoors continues to grow!”

Stories like this remind us that the lessons learned in Scouting last a lifetime—and that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible!
