The Northeast Iowa Council is pleased to honor Amy Henry as a Spotlight Volunteer! Amy currently serves as the assistant Cubmaster and Wolf den leader for Pack 41. This is her 2nd year in Scouting and has served as a Tiger den leader, assistant Cubmaster and Wolf den leader.
Amy has two sons, Ryder and Raylan, a dog, Tank, and two cats, Jack and Noel, also roam her home. Outside of Scouting Amy works as an Agricultural Marketing Specialist for the US Department of Agriculture, is the secretary for the Postville Childcare Services Board of Directors and serves on the Christian Education Committee for St. Paul Lutheran Church. In her free time, Amy also enjoys cross-stitching, reading, travelling, exercising, and healthy cooking.
What motivates you to give your time to Scouting?
With being a single parent, my time spent in Scouting is time spent with my sons. They are both highly interested in the program, and I am along to encourage them through it. The activities are things that we can enjoy together.
What aspects of Scouting do you enjoy the most?
I have enjoyed deciding what places to go to for our pack outings. The kids have received a lot of knowledge/inspiration from the places that we’ve ventured to.
What advice can you give to new Scouting parents?
Volunteer and be involved. The program brings a lot of skill building activities to the kids. For some of them, it’s the only way that they will learn some important life skills as our school systems are becoming more focused on standardized testing and not on the fundamentals of life such as cooking and balancing a checkbook.
