What motivates you to give your time to Scouting?
I love seeing youth grow and succeed. I am inspired by the joy and enthusiasm they bring to their lives and the lives of those around them.
What aspects of Scouting do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy the exposure to adventure that everyone in Scouting receives as well as the opportunities for adults and youth alike to develop their leadership and teamwork skills. The sense of community and shared values of Scouting across the nation are something I can take with me everywhere and always find a friend.
What advice can you give to new Scouting parents?
Get involved! Don’t stop getting involved! Always look for ways to help out.
What have you learned through Scouting?
A lot. Humility, teamwork, communication, enthusiasm, professionalism (surprise!), many outdoor skills, and just how to be a better person.
Please share a favorite Scouting memory.
My favorite moments from my youth days in Scouting are those in-between moments – those moments when you don’t realize you’re creating an incredible memory since, at the time, what you’re doing might seem mundane. It helps me to appreciate the present as it is and who I am with.
On behalf of the Northeast Iowa Council, please help us say thank you to a very dedicated Scouter, Tom Mayer!
