Eagle Scout Blake Ihde

Troop: 40
Eagle Project Location: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Garnavillo, Iowa

Eagle Project Description: Blake removed, cleaned, repaired, and permanently attached veteran medallions to headstones at St Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Garnavillo. The current veteran markers were being damaged by regular maintenance at the cemetery. Each headstone had a hole drilled to affix the repaired marker, then once the marker was placed the hole was sealed to prevent damage to the headstone. Any headstones that were in need were cleaned. The affixing of markers to the headstones ensures their safety and use for years to come.

What does the accomplishment of earning the Eagle Scout Rank mean to you?

Earning Eagle to me is an accomplishment I can show in family tradition with my father and brother

If you had to describe your entire Scouting experience with just one word, what word would you choose? Why?

Fun, I had a lot of good friends go through scouts with me and made lots of memories

In today’s world, where leadership in crucial, how do you believe the values and skills you’ve gained as an Eagle Scout can make a difference?

This summer I will be working at my local scout camp and I hope to inspire the younger scouts to strive for Eagle as well.

By doing your Eagle Service Project, what did you learn about managing or leading people?

During my service project I learned as a manager you have to think of fast and simple solutions to problems, while not sacrificing the quality of the project.

What advice would you give to younger Scout who aspire to become Eagle Scouts?

I would tell them to not forget to have fun along the way even near the end of the scouting years. It can be stressful and a grind.

Please share a favorite Scouting memory.

A favorite scouting memory is doing high cup at scout camp with my family and fellow Eagle Scouts.
