The Impact of Scouting After School
Our Scout Outreach program has made a remarkable impact on the children attending our local Waukon after-school programs. Thanks to the generous support from our donors, we have been able to introduce the wonders of outdoor adventure to these young minds.
- Tent Setup: Kids learn how to set up real Scout tents in gyms and classrooms, sparking excitement and curiosity.
- Knife Safety: Practical lessons on knife safety ensures kids understand the significance of handling tools responsibly.
- Canoe Basics: Every child has the opportunity to climb into a Scout canoe, learning paddle grip and technique.
- First Aid: Hands-on activities with first aid equipment teaches the importance of each item and how to use them when necessary.
- Backpacking: Children explore the essentials of packpacking, preparing them for future outdoor adventures.
A Heartwarming Moment:
One of the most memorable moments came from a first-grader at West Waukon Elementary. After helping set up a Scout tent, he darted in and out, peeked through the tent window, and then rushed out with a huge smile on his face, exclaiming, “I’ve never been camping before!!” This simple yet profound statement encapsulates the joy and wonder that Scout Outreach brings to these children.
