Scouts and Siblings Team Up to Clean Bergfeld Pond

On June 7, 2025, Scouts from Pack 100 (Dubuque, IA) and Troop 14 (East Dubuque, IL) took action to protect their local environment as part of the Scouting for Clean Waterways initiative. Elise and Grayson led a family effort to clean up litter around Bergfeld Pond and its adjacent playground.

Together, the group collected for two hours—making a visible difference in the well-loved community space. Their cleanup not only beautified the area but also helped safeguard the pond’s wildlife, which included Canadian geese and goslings, a snow goose, and even a great blue heron spotted during the outing.

After their hard work, the Scouts and their siblings enjoyed a peaceful afternoon of fishing, surrounded by the very nature they had just helped protect.

This project is a great example of how Scouting fosters environmental stewardship and family engagement. It also highlights the impact of small, local actions in preserving natural spaces for everyone to enjoy.
